Five of the newly appointed 82 ministers did not take their oaths during Monday’s Cabinet swearing-in ceremony at State House, Entebbe.
Four of the five are still facing querries over their dual citizenship and these include, Adonia Ayebare, designated Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Lawrence Muganga, designated Minister of State for Internal Affairs; David Calvin Echodu(Minister of State for International Affairs;) and Shartsi Kutesa Musherure( Minister of State for Microfinance)
The First Lady, Janet Musefveni, who was also appointed Minister for Education and Sports also missed the swearing-in ceremony.
Speaking during the event, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, Lucy Nakyobe explained the absence of the five ministers.
Nakyobe explained that she and the Solicitor General had met with four of the five affected ministers over the weekend to discussed the matter, before a report was made to President Museveni for guidance.
“The four, as per your directive, the Solicitor General and I interfaced with them over the weekend, and a brief was made and handed over to the Principal Private Secretary this morning for your further guidance,” Nakyobe said.
It has been reported that government has been advised by its lawyers that the swearing-in of the four be left pending until their renunciation processes are fully completed.
Through this, lawyers warned that allowing the four take oath would have legal implications on the process.
Speaking on Monday, the head of public services said that one of the nominees was indisposed, although she did not disclose their identity.
Addressing the newly sworn-in ministers, President Museveni congratulated them and wished them success in their new roles.
