The General Secretary of the Uganda Pickleball Association, Faisal Banja has gone into hiding after being accused of engaging in same sex activities with male players.
Banja’s problems started with a tip off by parents to the area local council of Bulenga Kikaaya in Wakiso district that he was involving in acts of homosexuality with male players.
It is said this prompted the calling of a meeting by the Bulenga Kikaaya LC 1 leaders which was also attended by parents.
In the meeting, a resolution was passed dismissing Banja from the village and stopping his Pickleball activities with in the communities of Kikaaya .
“He has been using pickleball to recruit children into homosexuality acts. He had recruited many on this village. We cant allow such a person to be part of our community,” a parent who preferred anonymity so as to speak freely said.
It is said that after the meeting, the aggrieved locals led by the LC1 leaders stormed Banja’s home but he was nowhere to be seen.
It has also been reported that Banja had got wind of the plan and escaped from the house.
Police have remained tightlipped on the matter.
The Anti Homosexuality law enacted in May 2023 punishes consensual same-sex relations with life imprisonment.
The law has potential ramifications for the press beyond issues with sourcing because anyone convicted of printing, broadcasting, or distributing material “promoting or encouraging homosexuality” could be imprisoned for 20 years.
