The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced a new round of promotions within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), elevating several senior officers to higher ranks.
Among those promoted is Col Paddy Ankunda, the former army spokesperson, who has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. Brig Ankunda is currently serving as the Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, responsible for International Affairs.
The promotions, communicated in an official message released on Saturday night, also include Major General Francis Okello, the outgoing Commandant of the UPDF National Defence College, who has been promoted to Lieutenant General — the second-highest rank in the Ugandan military. Lt Gen Okello is expected to officially retire from active service next month.
Additionally, Col Geoffrey Karugaba, Uganda’s Defence Attaché to the United Kingdom, has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
The latest promotions are part of ongoing efforts to recognize distinguished service and bolster leadership within the UPDF.
