Businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba has been endorsed unopposed as Chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League for the 2025–2031 term, following consensus among party stakeholders.
The decision was reached after a meeting convened by President Museveni, the NRM national chairman, and facilitated by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa at State Lodge Nakasero on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The dialogue brought together all contenders for the position—Sanjay Tanna, Philip Kakuru, and King Ceasor Mulenga—who agreed to step aside in favor of Basajjabalaba “in the spirit of party unity and cohesion,” according to a communiqué issued after the meeting.
President Museveni welcomed the endorsement, commending the aspirants for prioritizing harmony over competition.
“I would like to thank Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa for bringing these factions together and all the aspirants for their foresight,” he said. “It is not just about who is in the position, but what can be achieved. I congratulate Al Hajj Basajjabalaba and commend the other candidates for their selfless act.”
Basajjabalaba, a seasoned businessman and former chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association, now takes charge of the Entrepreneurs League, one of the NRM’s specialized structures responsible for mobilizing the business community to support party programs and national development efforts.
His leadership will run until 2031, with expectations that he will leverage his private sector experience to strengthen the party’s economic mobilization agenda.
