Businessman Andrew Muhandiki was on Tuesday remanded until January 14, 2026, by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court over the alleged theft of Shs815 million from the Uganda Liberal Teachers SACCO.
Muhandiki is accused of colluding with former SACCO leaders to withdraw the money without authorization in May 2025.
According to court records, he allegedly signed a fraudulent agreement to develop 500 acres of non-existent land in Kyangwali, which SACCO leaders falsely claimed to have purchased for Shs2.75 billion.
The businessman joins other SACCO officials, including the chairperson and secretary, who are already facing charges in connection with the misappropriation of more than Shs3.6 billion from a Shs20 billion fund granted by the President to improve teachers’ welfare.
Court heard that investigations into the case are ongoing and that additional suspects may be charged as inquiries continue.
