President Yoweri Museveni has awarded Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba the Kabalega Star, Uganda’s second highest military honour.
Gen Muhoozi received the decoration during the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations held on Friday in Kabale District.
The Kabalega Star ranks second only to the Order of Katonga and is awarded to individuals in recognition of conspicuous gallantry, bravery and distinguished military service.
During the citation, Gen Muhoozi was commended for his key military operations across the region, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Somalia.
“He previously commanded operations against Al-Shabaab up to 2022, and directly executed strategic missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of South Sudan and Somalia, all aimed at eliminating terrorism and creating a stable region,” the UPDF said during the function.
President Museveni, who is also the commander in chief of the UPDF decorated Gen Muhoozi with the medal that is named after Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro who is remembered for resisting British rule.
