Masaka High Court has sentenced a 78-year-old witchdoctor to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing his 13-year-old daughter.
Kassim Katongole, a resident of Lwamagwa in Rakai District, was convicted of defilement, with Justice Victoria Nakintu handing down the ruling.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to Katongole’s status as a traditional healer in the community.
In a separate case, Bonny Bukenya pleaded guilty to defiling his 14-year-old stepdaughter and infecting her with HIV.
Prosecutors told the court that Bukenya began abusing the girl after marrying her mother, and the abuse only came to light when she was sent to her grandmother, who discovered her HIV infection.
Both cases were handled in partnership with Okoa, an organization advocating for the rights of abused children and women.
