Vladlen Semivolos, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Uganda, has paid a courtesy call to Okello Oryem, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), as he concludes his tour of duty in the country.
During the meeting, Oryem commended Ambassador Semivolos for his significant contributions to strengthening Uganda–Russia relations, noting that his diplomatic skills and personal approach played a key role in advancing bilateral ties.
“Russia has historically supported the liberation of Southern African nations and advocated for the lifting of sanctions on Uganda and other East African countries,” Oryem remarked.
Ambassador Semivolos expressed appreciation for the warm reception and robust partnerships he fostered during his posting.
He highlighted major achievements, including efforts at the United Nations Security Council to prevent a resolution targeting Uganda’s gold production and the signing of multiple bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding across visa facilitation, health, agriculture, security, and ICT.
Reflecting on his tenure, Semivolos described his posting in Uganda as “the most consequential” of his career, attributing the success to strong cooperation with the host nation.
Oryem wished the ambassador well as he embarks on his next professional chapter.
