Members of the 12th Parliament have been urged to pass non-partisan laws that serve all Ugandans and stand the test of time.
The call was made by the Titular head of Muslims, Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, while delivering his Eid message at Kibuli Mosque, where believers gathered to mark Eid Al-Adha.
“We would like to ask members of parliament that please pass the laws that will pass the test of time, pass the laws that are non-partisan, and focus on winning people’s trust and confidence,” he said.
He also urged Muslims, blessed by Allah, to use this Eid to help those in need.
“Eid al-Adha is a day of sacrifice, a day of taqwa. I wish to implore all brethren to share the bounties given to us with those less privileged, with family, friends, and all those we meet in our course of life,” Nakibinge said.
The Mufti appealed to MPs to prioritize good governance and service, urging politicians to leave past divisions behind.
“All we are asking is for good service, value, and honesty. We are asking for value for money. Please serve all people, forgetting past divisions and joining hands with your adversaries, so Uganda can move forward,” he said.
Nakibinge also reflected on global and regional challenges, praying for peace in conflict-affected countries such as Iran, Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He urged Ugandans to follow Ministry of Health guidance to prevent Ebola, including washing hands and avoiding crowded places.
The Mufti praised the Ministry of Education for providing clear guidance to school foundation bodies and prayed for Minister Janet Museveni’s good health and recovery from ailments.
The Eid prayers at Kibuli Mosque were presided over by the Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Galabuzi.
The day commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, after which Allah provided a lamb in his place.
After prayers, Muslims slaughter animals such as goats, sheep, and cows, and share the meat with family, neighbours, and the needy.
