The Ministry of Works and Transport has dismissed as false and misleading claims circulating on social media that the Government of Uganda has suspended the registration and issuance of digital number plates.
The clarification follows widespread posts on platforms including TikTok and X, which alleged that the government had halted the digital number plate registration exercise.
In a statement issued on Monday, Susan Kataike, the Principal Communications Officer and spokesperson for the Ministry of Works and Transport, described the reports as untrue and urged the public to rely only on official government communication.
“The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to clarify that information circulating on social media, particularly on TikTok and in a post on X accompanied by a video, alleging that the Government of Uganda has suspended the registration of digital number plates, is false and misleading,” Kataike said.
She emphasised that the digital number plate programme remains fully operational, with all registration and issuance services continuing as normal.
“The registration and issuance of digital number plates have not been suspended. The programme remains in effect, and all registration services continue to operate in accordance with the established procedures,” she said.
Kataike urged motorists and the general public to disregard the misinformation and seek updates only through the Ministry’s official communication channels.
She also warned against creating and sharing unverified information, saying it has the potential to cause unnecessary confusion and inconvenience to the public.
