Three people have died and six others survived after a fire broke out at a residence in Nansana West One A, Wakiso District, in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Bulali Isabirye, Namuondo Annet and Nanyombi Violet, according to information available to police from people who know the family and those who occupied the premises.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the bodies were burnt beyond recognition, with identification still ongoing.
“The bodies were burnt beyond identification and identification is ongoing,” Rusoke said.
He said police are treating the incident as a suspected case of arson, citing information gathered from the ground.
“We are treating it as an arson because of the nature of information filtering in from the ground. It is said that one of the victims could have lit the fire intentionally,” Rusoke said.
This website has separately learnt that Nanyombi forced one of her children out of the house and gave her a cheat with some information, before locking herself and other family members in the house and setting it on fire.
“It is alleged that when setting the house on fire, they pushed some people out and was violent,” Rusoke said.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the suspected arson have not yet been conclusively established.
