For one Saturday, Ndere Cultural Centre traded its usual cultural setting for an adult playground as Qweshunga Day returned for its sixth edition, bringing together games, water fights, bouncing castles, music and partying under the Captain Morgan brand.
The event offered adults an opportunity to reconnect with childhood games and carefree entertainment, with activities ranging from kwepena and otyo to chess, matatu and ludo.
The playful atmosphere began with gogolo, where participants used makeshift slides made from jerrycans and ropes to glide down the concrete slope. The experience quickly escalated into water fights, with revellers armed with water guns as they moved around the grounds.
For those looking for more energetic activities, bouncing castles and trampolines provided another outlet, while indoor games offered a chance to slow down and socialise over drinks.
The event also featured a matautu session involving representatives from Captain Morgan and Qweshunga.
Raymond Karama, Captain Morgan Brand Manager, said the partnership reflected the brand’s focus on entertainment and play.
“Play and party is the Captain Morgan DNA and Qweshunga has given us an opportunity to bring the spice to the play. We absolutely look forward to the next edition,” Karama said.
Penelope Sanyu of Qweshunga said the event was designed to give adults an opportunity to reconnect with games associated with their childhood.
“With each edition of Qweshunga, our goal is to take everyone down memory lane with some of their favourite games and that’s exactly what we did today. Enabling carefree fun that most adults didn’t know they needed,” she said.
As the day progressed into the evening, the games gave way to a Captain Morgan-themed rave, with DJs City Girl, Matson, Anslem and Dre taking turns behind the decks.
Singer Winnie Nwagi later took to the stage, delivering a performance that kept the crowd dancing late into the night.
The sixth edition of Qweshunga combined nostalgic games with contemporary entertainment, creating a social experience built around play, music and adult recreation.
