The Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam successfully organized the Uganda Tourism Roadshow in Maputo, Mozambique, on October 8, 2026, to promote Destination Uganda, strengthen tourism partnerships and expand business opportunities between Uganda and Mozambique.
In his keynote address, Col. (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, highlighted the country’s unique tourism attractions, including mountain gorilla trekking, wildlife, cultural heritage and adventure experiences.
He emphasized the importance of leveraging the strong bilateral relations between Uganda and Mozambique to promote tourism investment, joint destination marketing and increased tourist flows between the two countries.
Mrs. Telma Sono, representing the Mozambique National Institute for Tourism (INATUR), welcomed the initiative and underscored the need to strengthen tourism cooperation, foster private-sector partnerships and promote knowledge exchange between the two countries.
A key highlight of the roadshow was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation between the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) and the Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators of Mozambique (AVITUM).
The agreement provides a framework for joint tourism promotion, business partnerships and the development of multi-destination tourism packages aimed at enhancing travel opportunities between Uganda and Mozambique.
Another major milestone was the successful facilitation of 100 business-to-business (B2B) meetings through a virtual platform, connecting Ugandan tour operators with their Mozambican counterparts. The meetings provided an opportunity for direct business networking, the exploration of commercial partnerships and the identification of opportunities to develop joint tourism packages and increase tourist flows between the two countries.
The initiative forms part of the Uganda High Commission’s Economic and Commercial Diplomacy efforts to position Uganda as a preferred tourism destination, diversify its tourism source markets and translate regional partnerships into increased tourist arrivals, investment and business opportunities.
Through initiatives such as the tourism roadshow, Uganda continues to strengthen its engagement with international tourism stakeholders while promoting collaboration and sustainable growth in the tourism sector.
