A police officer deployed to guard at Afford Agencies Limited in Namanve Industrial Park, Wakiso District, has shot himself dead.
The deceased has been identified as PC Allan Akandinda, 25, attached to the Counter-Terrorism (CT) Tactical Unit and deployed to guard the company in Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Kira Municipality.
According to police, Akandinda reported for duty at about 10:15am on Sunday, October 11, 2026, after reportedly failing to report on time.
Police said Akandinda had allegedly been involved in a fight with a woman at a bar in Mbuya-Kinawataka after a disagreement over payment, an incident that reportedly led to his arrest and detention at an unidentified police station.
His colleague, PC Ajuna Onan Kabura, told police that Akandinda later arrived at work and was questioned by his commander, ASP Komakech Steven, about the incident.
“He was questioned by his commander ASP Komakech Steven at around 1000hrs, the time he reached at work, and he rudely replied him,” police said in the incident report.
Police said that at about 1:15pm, Akandinda entered one of the rooms at Afford Agencies, locked himself inside and shortly afterwards a gunshot was heard.
“They only heard the gunshot, only to peep from the window and found him lying upside down on his bed in a pool of blood,” police said.
The scene was visited by the Kampala Metropolitan Police East Regional Police Commander, SSP Tashobya Justus, CT personnel led by ASP Komakech, officers from Kirinya Police Station, the Scene of Crime Officer and Criminal Investigations team.
Police said the door was locked from the inside, with the key found inside the room. The firearm, a SAR rifle, was recovered between the deceased’s legs.
“The body was lying upside down with a deep gun wound at the front neck,” police said.
Investigators also recovered one spent cartridge inside the room, while another bullet was found in the chamber of the firearm. The rifle was loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, while two magazines containing 60 rounds were recovered from the porch.
Police also noted a hole in the ceiling suspected to have been caused by a bullet.
The case has been registered at Kirinya Police Station under SD Ref 19/11/10/2026 as suicide by shooting, as investigations continue.
