The Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced Ibrahim Kavuuma to three and a half years in prison for his role in a property fraud scheme in which he and his accomplices obtained USD 205,556, equivalent to approximately Shs740 million, from a victim using forged land documents.
The court also ordered Kavuuma to refund Shs70 million to the victim and directed that Shs8,004,700, USD 2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered from him during his arrest be forfeited to facilitate compensation.
The case arose from an incident on July 15, 2025, when Kavuuma, alongside other suspects who remain at large, allegedly used forged property documents to convince the victim that he was the rightful owner of the property.
The documents included a certificate of title, sale agreements and transfer forms, which were allegedly falsified to facilitate the fraudulent transaction.
Through the scheme, Kavuuma and his accomplices obtained USD 205,556, equivalent to approximately Shs740 million, from the victim.
Kavuuma was subsequently arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit and charged with forgery, uttering false documents, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.
In addition to the prison sentence and refund order, the court ordered the forfeiture of Shs8,004,700, USD 2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered from Kavuuma during his arrest. The assets are to be used towards compensating the victim.
- The other suspects linked to the scheme remain at large.
