Dr. Kizza Besigye, Uganda’s opposition leader was on Sunday taken to a clinic in Bugoloobi under heavy security.
According to Buhweju County MP Francis Mwijukye, Besigye arrived at the clinic, located on the third floor of the Mall, “in a wheelchair, raising concerns about his deteriorating health.”
“Amidst very heavy security deployment, Dr. Besigye has been brought to a clinic at Bugolobi village Mall. The Clinic is called The Clinic on the 3rd floor of the Mall. He was being lifted in a wheel chair.” Mwijukye said on X.
At the facility, there was a heavy presence of security from both the police and Uganda Prisons .
The Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi said that Besigye’s personal doctors had visited him
Last week, Besigye appeared frail during a session at Buganda Road Court, sparking alarm among political leaders and citizens both within and outside Uganda, many of whom have called for his immediate release.
On Sunday, Baryomunsi said he had visited Besigye in prison and stated that he counseled him to resume eating as the government expedites the transfer of his case from the military court to a civilian court.
However, Baryomunsi did not disclose any details regarding Besigye’s current health status.
The situation remains tense, with growing concerns over Besigye’s well-being and continued detention.
