President Museveni has called on leaders in Greater Luweero to urgently develop a comprehensive strategy to reduce school dropout rates and ensure every Ugandan child stays in school.
Speaking during a meeting held at Timnah School Grounds in Kasana Town, the President emphasized that the time has come for Uganda to move toward free education at all levels if school fees are the primary reason children are missing out.
“If our children are not in school on account of school fees, then we must, as a country, move towards free education at all levels,” President Museveni stated.
The President’s remarks come amid growing concerns over rising school dropouts in various parts of the country, particularly in rural areas where many households still struggle to meet basic education costs.
In his address, Museveni also underscored the importance of consolidating the gains made through the Parish Development Model (PDM), adding that discussions are underway to increase PDM funds to benefit more households.
“Our priorities remain on household income and wealth creation, infrastructural development, market integration, and education for all,” Museveni told the gathering. “Let’s seek for these first and the rest will come.”
The President urged local leaders to continue mobilizing communities around government programs aimed at uplifting livelihoods, noting that inclusive development begins with transforming individual households.
The meeting attracted district leaders, opinion leaders, and members of the community, all of whom echoed the need for stronger collaboration between government and local structures to tackle education and poverty challenges.
