Police in Kasangati have arrested a man suspected to be at the center of a violent criminal syndicate responsible for a string of murders and aggravated robberies in multiple regions of Uganda.
Identified as Imanantireganya Alfadudu, alias “Congolese,” the suspect was apprehended during a late-night, intelligence-guided operation carried out on May 9, 2025, in Bulamu Cell, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.
While addressing journalists at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the development, naming the suspect as a key figure in a wider criminal ring operating in Kampala Metropolitan Area, Ssezibwa, Busoga East, Busoga North, and Elgon region.
“During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he and his accomplices, identified as Mozy, Mapengo, and others, used a SAR rifle in a series of violent robberies,” ACP Kituuma said.
Following leads provided by the suspect, law enforcement officers tracked the firearm to Girigiri Village in Mayuge District. There, at the residence of a man identified as Ivulungo Bumali, the police recovered the SAR rifle alongside other evidence.
“The rifle was routinely hidden at the home of one Ivulungo Bumali in Girigiri Village, Maina Parish, Mpungwe Subcounty in Mayuge District after their operations.”
A raid on the premises led to the seizure of two hammers, a knife, and jackets believed to have been used during the robberies. Both Ivulungo and his wife were detained to assist with further investigations.
“Preliminary findings indicate the recovered firearm was indeed stolen in the Mukono robbery last year. Investigations into the full extent of the criminal network are underway,” ACP Kituuma added.
Police say more arrests are expected as the probe deepens into what appears to be a well-coordinated, multi-regional criminal enterprise.
