Kampala Metropolitan Police has kicked off investigations into circumstances under which a police commander was found dead inside a septic tank at his home.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Julius Ahimbisibwe who was serving as the Division Police Commander(DPC) for Jinja Road Police was on Easter Monday found dead under unclear circumstances in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council.
His body was found in the septic tank with a rope around the neck.
Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the development but said investigations will help shed light on the cause of the death.
“ Merely having a rope around the neck doesn’t confirm suicide. We are waiting for a postmortem to confirm the exact cause of his death,” Rusoke said.
Ahimbisibwe was last year suspended after he allegedly shot and injured his ex-wife in a case of domestic violence.
He had allegedly shot his wife, Anita Namusoke at the arm during an argument at Nabitokolo, Kyengera town council on the night of March, 4, 2024 after accusing her of being engaged in an extra-marital affair with other men.
The DPC was later suspended from work and both disciplinary and criminal charges instituted against him.
He would later be remanded over attempted murder but released on bail.
SSP Julius Ahimbisibwe has since then been suspended .
