As Christians across Uganda prepare to mark Easter a sacred celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday, Police has issued an appeal to the public to remain vigilant and security-conscious during the holiday period.
While Easter is traditionally a time of joy, reflection, and spiritual renewal, police say it also presents increased opportunities for criminal elements to exploit.
“Easter is a time when communities come together in large numbers, whether in churches, homes, or on the road. This heightened activity often leads to increased vulnerability,” police said in Easter message.
The Force is calling on individuals and communities to take an active role in ensuring their own safety by being alert and reporting any suspicious activities.
“We urge Ugandans to maintain heightened vigilance and awareness during the Easter festivities. Let us not offer opportunities to those with ill motives,” Enanga added.
As thousands are expected to flock to places of worship, the police have asked churchgoers to cooperate closely with security agencies and avoid leaving valuables in unsecured areas.
“Churches should coordinate with local security officers to ensure controlled access and visible security presence,” the statement read.
Police have also emphasized the importance of community-based initiatives, such as neighborhood watch programs, to deter criminal behavior. Enhanced security measures, including proper lighting and secured entry points at homes and business premises, are being encouraged.
Meanwhile, with a surge in travel expected across the country, police are appealing to motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations to avoid accidents.
“Drive responsibly. We have lost too many lives in past festive seasons due to reckless behavior on the roads,” the statement reas
The Uganda Police Force concluded its Easter security advisory with a message of goodwill.
“We extend our sincere wishes for a peaceful and joyous Easter to all Ugandans. By working collectively, we can ensure the maintenance of security and harmony.”
As the nation celebrates this holy season, the police remain on high alert, assuring the public of increased deployments and swift response mechanisms throughout the holiday period.
