The Special Forces Command (SFC) has said it has launched an investigation into allegations that SFC soldiers brutally assaulted the brother of Next Media’s Mark Agaba, also known as Uncle Mark, during a Presidential convoy.
According to Agaba, the incident occurred several months ago while his brother was trying to get home after his pregnant wife had fallen in the bathroom.
He said in the post that his brother jumped off a motorcycle to cross to the other side of the road but was intercepted and severely beaten by SFC personnel as President Museveni’s convoy passed through town.
He added that his brother disappeared for two days and returned with missing toenails.
In a statement on Monday, SFC spokesperson, Maj Jimmy Omara said they are unaware of such an erroneous incident by any of their officers, adding that they have kicked off investigations into the incident.
“The SFC with immediate effect has instituted a probe into the matter with a call to the general public to help avail further details on the same,” Maj Omara said.
He explained that as part of the investigations, SFC will try to find out the location where the said incident happened, the type of vehicle used, its time of occurrence, name of the alleged victims, the culprits involved and try to hold whoever may be responsible, accountable.
“In the same vein, Mr. Agaba has been asked to link us up with the said victim with the view of getting information that could lead to the apprehension of those who could have committed the alleged crime,” Maj Omara said.
“SFC/UPDF remains resolute on its mandate to preserve and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Uganda.”
