Security has arrested a prominent TikToker who is accused of orchestrating viral videos attacking and defaming government officials.
Benson Miyingo, 32, a resident of Mutundwe was arrested by security from Mubende where he was hiding after a manhunt for him begun.
He is currently detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest.
“We have arrested Miyingo on charges of spreading malicious information and will soon be arraigned in courts of law,” Onyango said.
The case
Miyingo, is accused of using his TikTok account, Benson Pro Ug Official to attack several government officials including the External Security Organisation Director General, Amb. Joseph Ocwet, Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda and her Public service counterpart, Muruuli Mukasa.
In one of the TikTok videos which went viral, Miyingo accused Minister Kabanda of orchestrating the grabbing of conniving with Kampala businessmen, Abdul Kasai to grab a piece of land in Kampala.
“My investigation has indicated that Abdul Kasasi grabbed a piece of land on the orders of Minister Kabanda. The Park Enkadde Mall that many said belonged to the first family belongs to Minsa Kabanda,” Miyingo said in one of the videos.
He said in the video that he had evidence to that effect and that in case anyone wanted it, he was ready to share it.
In another video which has since gone viral, Miyingo claimed he had got a letter from the SFC commander claiming that the ESO director general was involved in grabbing a piece of land under the names of ESO.
Sources in security say the arrest of Miyingo would help them uncover the racket that is behind coordinated attacks on social media platforms, especially TikTok against government officials.
