Kampala’s live music calendar will take on a cross-border dimension this Saturday, August 29, when Afro Urban: Kigali Meets Kampala brings Rwandan and Ugandan artists, DJs and creatives to MoTIV Bugolobi.
The event, which starts at 5pm at VibeHouse, will be headlined by Rwandan singer Mike Kayihura and Ugandan alternative R&B artist Kohen Jaycee. It is organised by Afro Urban in partnership with Sesse Nation and Shorts Na Lessu, with Club Pilsener as a sponsor. The event is restricted to audiences aged 18 and above.
Kayihura has built a reputation as one of Rwanda’s contemporary soul and R&B voices, drawing on East African influences in projects including Barely Mixed, Zuba and his 2026 release, Intwaza.
Jaycee, meanwhile, has emerged from Uganda’s alternative R&B and Afro-urban scene with a sound rooted in personal storytelling and soulful melodies. His work includes Wena, Heartstrings and the debut album Rwebembera: Rising Echoes. He is also preparing to release his upcoming HERITANCE project.
The programme will also feature performances by Mike Mungu and Kyle Simbwa, alongside DJ sets from DJ Ames, DJ Kai, DJ Karsten and DJ Kaz.
Rwandan radio personality, MC and content curator Zuba Mutesi will host the evening, adding a Kigali-based creative voice to an event designed to connect the two cities’ music and cultural scenes.
The showcase follows Afro Urban’s Her Edition, which was held at MoTIV in March. The platform has increasingly positioned its events around the intersection of music, fashion, art and contemporary African culture.
For Club Pilsener, the partnership builds on its longstanding involvement in Uganda’s entertainment industry. The brand has supported music platforms including Club MegaFest, Club Beats At Home and Club Dome, as well as Club Canvas, an immersive property combining music, art, fashion and technology.
Jaycee performed at the inaugural Club Canvas edition at Muyenga Quarry, providing an additional link between the artist, the brand and Saturday’s Afro Urban showcase.
With artists from Kigali and Kampala sharing one stage, Kigali Meets Kampala is positioned as both a live music event and a meeting point for two closely connected East African creative communities.
