Buganda premier, Charles Peter Mayiga, has joined regional leaders in mourning the death of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, noting that the Odinga family shared a historic and close bond with the Buganda Kingdom.
In his condolence message, Katikkiro said the news of Odinga’s passing had been met with deep sorrow within the Buganda Kingdom.
“The news of the death of Mr Raila Odinga has been received with sadness,” he said.
He highlighted the longstanding relationship between the Odingas and the Buganda Royal Family, a connection he said dates back decades.
“The Odinga family has had a long and close relationship with Buganda’s Royal Family, right from the days of Ssekabaka Edward Muteesa II to date,” Katikkiro stated.
Paying tribute to Odinga’s contribution to public life, Mayiga recognised him not only as a political force but also as a key figure in Kenya’s constitutional evolution and business growth.
“Mr Raila Odinga has contributed significantly to Kenya’s political processes and constitutional development. He has also been a strong businessman,” he said.
Katikkiro extended his sympathies to Odinga’s family and to the people of Kenya and East Africa at large.
“I express my condolences to members of his family, friends, Kenyans, and all East Africans. May the Lord receive his soul,” he added.
