The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the nomination of candidates for Members of Parliament representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will be conducted on October 22 and 23, 2025.
The exercise will take place at the commission’s headquarters in Kampala from 9am to 5pm on both days. It will cover four categories — older persons, persons with disabilities, workers, and youths.
Justice Simon Byabakama , the EC Chairperson, said the commission is ready to conduct the nominations and urged aspiring candidates to adhere to all requirements.
“We call upon all stakeholders in the electoral process to take note of these dates and ensure compliance with the nomination requirements and procedures,” Byabakama said.
He explained that those seeking nomination must be Ugandan citizens, registered voters, and fulfill all conditions stated in the EC’s nomination guidelines, which are available at the headquarters and on the commission’s website.
The announcement was made in accordance with Section 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, which mandates the EC to organize elections for Special Interest Group representatives.
Byabakama said the nominations mark an important step in preparations for the 2026 General Elections and assured the public of the commission’s commitment to delivering a “regular, free and fair election.”
He called on political parties and interest groups to cooperate with the EC to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
