The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd, in partnership with Hoima City, has officially launched the construction of the Nyamasoga–Katooke Road under its Socio-Economic Investment (SEI) programme.
The infrastructure project is part of EACOP’s wider effort to uplift communities along the crude oil pipeline route through improved accessibility and local development.
The 7.5-kilometre marram road, located in Buseruka Sub-County, Hoima District, will connect the villages of Kayera and Katooke—home to more than 6,500 residents across 600 households. Once completed, the rehabilitated road will improve access to key trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka, while linking to the Kaiso–Tonya Highway.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. JB Habumugisha, Deputy Managing Director of EACOP Ltd., reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community transformation through sustainable infrastructure.
“EACOP remains committed to ensuring that the communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This road project demonstrates our dedication to supporting local development priorities in partnership with government authorities,” Habumugisha said.
According to officials, the road’s current poor condition has hampered trade and transport within the area. Its rehabilitation is expected to boost commerce, improve access to markets and essential services, and stimulate economic growth for the surrounding communities.
Hoima Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Rodgers Mbabazi, who officially commissioned the project, lauded EACOP’s investment in local infrastructure.
He emphasized that such initiatives are vital in improving livelihoods and accelerating development in the oil-rich district.
The commissioning ceremony, held at Katooke Trading Centre, was attended by the area Member of Parliament, Local Councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer, and community members.
