Kampala Metropolitan Police have conducted coordinated operations across multiple divisions between November 4th and 5th, resulting in the arrest of 204 suspects involved in drugs, theft, and other criminal activities.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the arrests came after ongoing coordinated operations across several divisions in Kampala Metropolitan Area.
“The Police in Kampala Metropolitan has continued to conduct coordinated operations across several divisions. Criminal hideouts, drug abusers, and habitual offenders who have been terrorising communities in urban and peri-urban areas were targeted.”
In Kajjansi Division, 44 suspects were arrested in Lweza B, Kilyamuli, Akright, and Kawotto for marijuana use, theft, and public nuisance. Two juveniles were also intercepted while attempting to break into a poultry house.
Old Kampala Division saw 60 arrests in Namungona, Nakulabye, and around the New Taxi Park and Mukwano Roundabout for possession of narcotics, breaking implements, and attempted felonies.
In Kabalagala Division, 45 suspects were apprehended in Nsamya, Kamwanyi, and Kataba over narcotics possession and street muggings. Matugga Division also reported arrests for phone and bag snatching, as well as drug use along the Matugga–Gulu Highway, Gombe, and Lwadda areas during evening hours.
In Mukono District, operations led to the arrest of nine suspects in Katwe–Bukerere, eight in Namave Industrial Park, and 30 in Kitega, Wantoni, Benghazi, and Kikooza, the police reported.
In Kira Division, 8 suspects were arrested in Nsasa and Bulindo for possession of suspected narcotics.
Owoyesigyire added, “All suspects are undergoing screening and will be processed for prosecution in courts of law. We commend the cooperation of local leaders and community members who continue to share information that aids in dismantling criminal networks.”
These operations highlight the police’s continued efforts to curb crime and ensure safety across Kampala Metropolitan areas especially during this period of elections.
