The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), AIGP Tom Magambo, has dismissed as false a WhatsApp message circulating on social media that links him to the ongoing family dispute involving businessman Professor Badru Katerega and his wife.
Magambo said he had been made aware of the message, which he described as misleading and malicious, noting that it wrongly associates his name with a matter that is purely civil in nature.
“As you may recall, the Police PRO publicly updated the country on their family conflict and advised them to handle their issue as a civil matter. As CID, we have no powers to intervene in the matter,” Magambo said.
He emphasized that the Criminal Investigations Directorate has not taken sides, nor has it issued any directives in the family wrangles, warning members of the public against spreading unverified information that could mislead or incite tension.
“For a record, I have never in my life met Prof Katerega or the wife personally and the insinuation by diversionary forces that we are known to each other should be rejected with the contempt it deserves. Let’s focus on building our motherland Uganda,” he said
Magambo further cautioned that individuals involved in generating or circulating false information risk facing legal consequences under existing laws governing misuse of electronic communication.
