Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has warned electricity consumers against tampering with meters or maintaining illegal connections.
UEDCL says such actions are not only dangerous but also carry serious legal consequences, including imprisonment.
They emphasized that unauthorized electricity connections pose significant safety risks, including electrocution and fire hazards, and urged residents to ensure their electricity connections are properly regularized.
Consumers are being encouraged to normalize their electricity accounts before December 31 to avoid penalties or potential prosecution.
UEDCL has made the registration and regularization process accessible online. Those wishing to formalize their connections can apply via the company’s portal at uedcl.co.ug/weterezeeee.
“Illegal connections put lives at risk and are a serious violation of the law. We urge all consumers to comply and regularize their electricity supply promptly,” a UEDCL spokesperson said.
The initiative is part of UEDCL’s ongoing efforts to provide safe, reliable, and legal electricity to all Ugandans through its widely promoted “Weterezeeee” campaign.
