A total of 255 suspects were arrested across Nansana, Kira Municipality, Kyanja and Kampala Central Division following joint security operations carried out on Sunday night.
The arrests followed a series of coordinated operations conducted by a joint task force in several crime-prone areas, including Nansana West Ward, Kyebando and Gganda, Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma and Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality, Kyanja under the Kira Road Policing Area, and selected black spots within Kampala’s Central Business District.
Confirming the arrests, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the areas had been identified through intelligence as criminal gathering points.
“We carried out a series of coordinated operations in these areas after receiving information that criminals were using them to plan and carry out crimes,” Owoyesigyire said.
“Our aim was to disrupt their activities and improve safety for the public.”
Police said 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana, 38 in Kira Municipality, 16 in Kyanja, and 136 in Kampala’s Central Business District, including two women, bringing the total number of suspects to 255.
Owoyesigyire said that all the suspects were screened and charged with offences related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other crimes, adding that exhibits of suspected drugs were also recovered during the operations.
“They are currently being held at various police stations as investigations continue before they are taken to court.”
Police said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore order.
“We assure the public that these operations will continue so that we maintain law and order and provide a peaceful and secure environment for everyone,” Owoyesigyire said.
