Ecobank Uganda Limited, in partnership with the Uganda Red Cross Society, hosted a CEO Fundraiser Breakfast bringing together corporate leaders, development partners, and philanthropists to support the “Keep a Girl in School” initiative.
The program aims to provide menstrual hygiene materials to vulnerable school-going girls, ensuring they remain in school and continue their education.
The breakfast, which marked the culmination of Women’s Month celebrations, served as a platform to mobilize private sector and development support for improving menstrual hygiene management—a key barrier to girls’ school retention.
The initiative builds on a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding between Ecobank Uganda and the Uganda Red Cross Society, under which the two organizations collaborate on humanitarian and community development programs.
Their partnership focuses on health, disaster response, blood donation, epidemic preparedness, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), youth and women empowerment, and sustainability.
Speaking at the event, Ecobank Uganda Managing Director Grace Muliisa emphasized the importance of collective action in supporting girls’ education.
“At Ecobank Uganda, we strongly believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and communities. Through the ‘Keep a Girl in School’ initiative, we are addressing a silent but significant barrier that forces many girls to miss school. This morning’s fundraiser demonstrates the power of partnerships and collective responsibility in ensuring that every girl has the dignity, confidence, and support she needs to stay in school and achieve her dreams,” she said.
Robert Kwesiga, Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society, commended Ecobank Uganda for leading the initiative.
“The collaboration reflects our shared commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities, restoring dignity, and increasing school retention among young girls. We are grateful to all the partners and individuals who have joined this cause and contributed towards creating opportunities for girls to continue their education,” he said.
Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, lauded the initiative’s impact on girls’ education.
“By addressing menstrual hygiene challenges, we are not only restoring dignity to young girls but also improving school retention and enabling them to fully participate in their education. We appreciate the commitment of partners like Uganda Red Cross and Ecobank Uganda in advancing this important cause,” she noted.
During the breakfast, partners and guests pledged their support, reaffirming the private sector’s role in ensuring dignity, education, and equal opportunities for girls across Uganda. Ecobank Uganda has established a dedicated account to facilitate contributions: Account Number 7195000778 under the name “Keep a Girl in School.”
The fundraiser reinforced the shared commitment between Ecobank Uganda and the Uganda Red Cross Society to drive impactful community programs that improve lives, advance education, and support sustainable development.
