Five suspects have been arrested after Police foiled a planned robbery targeting a person transporting money to a bank in Wandegeya.
The suspects were identified as Ivan Gizamba, Rogers Muyingo, Juma Ashford, Musa Masiga, and James Wanyama.
According to SP Racheal Kawala, the spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police, the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday morning.
Kawala said Police received information on May 15, 2026 at around 8:00 a.m. that a group of suspected robbers was planning to attack a victim who was expected to collect a bag containing money from Kalerwe and later deposit it with a bank agent in Wandegeya.
“The suspects had reportedly planned to attack the victim during the transaction,” SP Kawala said in a statement.
She said Police acted swiftly and mounted an operation that led to the arrest of five suspects and the impounding of two motorcycles, registration numbers UGG 664A and UMA 567JW.
Police described Ivan Gizamba as a key suspect believed to be linked to several aggravated robberies within the Kampala Metropolitan area, including robberies at Kitezi Hardware Shop in Wakiso District, Gwanda Mall, and Centenary Bank in Kampala District.
SP Kawala said investigations are still ongoing as Police continue hunting for other suspects connected to the crimes.
