The Emorimor of Teso, Paul Sande Emolot, has defended Anita Annet Among amid the ongoing debate surrounding the NRM Speakership race, saying the controversy is being fueled by “jealous people.”
Speaking on the growing political discussions over the Speakership, Emolot said leaders who perform well will always face criticism from people driven by jealousy.
“I know there’s a lot of talk left and right about the Speaker, but many of you know that when you are doing a good job, there are those who become jealous. This is all about jealous people,” Emolot said.
The Emorimor expressed confidence that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will make a wise decision regarding the Speakership and retain Among.
“We are very confident that the President will make a wise decision to retain her so she can complete her final term,” he said.
Emolot also argued that the ruling National Resistance Movement has previously set a precedent of allowing Speakers and Deputy Speakers to complete two terms in office.
“You know the NRM government set a precedent that when you are Speaker, you complete your two terms. When you are Deputy Speaker, you also complete two terms. Those who want to change the system instead of following the right path want to reverse it,” he added.
The kingdom’s position comes at a time when Anita Among has already bowed out of the Speakership race, pledging to support whoever the ruling NRM party endorses for the position.
