A parish chief and two SACCO officials in Kalaki District have been remanded after appearing before the Kaberamaido Magistrates Court over allegations of extorting money from Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries.
The accused include Joseph Olingo, the Parish Chief of Okungure Parish in Kakure Sub-county, James Edwonu, the Chairperson of Opungure-Kakure PDM SACCO, and Josphat Ocepa, the SACCO Secretary.
The trio was on Tuesday arraigned by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Court heard that the suspects, together with others still at large, allegedly obtained money from hundreds of PDM beneficiaries in 2024 by falsely promising to include their names among those eligible for support under the government programme.
They are facing charges of obtaining money by false pretences and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The three have been remanded until June 16, 2026 as investigations continue.
