Police have arrested another suspect in connection with the death of professional rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, bringing the total number of people in custody over the mob killing to 11.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old boda boda rider Henry Kabugo from Old Kira–Kisenyi, was captured in a viral video wearing a blue Uber boda boda reflector jacket and a black hood while allegedly attacking Gongodyo.
According to Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, Kabugo was arrested in Wandegeya, Kampala, during a joint operation involving police officers and boda boda leaders from Nakawa Division.
“This latest arrest brings the total number of suspects currently in custody to 11 as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue,” Kawala said.
She commended the boda boda community for its cooperation in supporting law enforcement efforts.
“We commend the boda boda community for their support in helping identify and apprehend those involved in this criminal act,” she said.
Police said efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the incident.
“The Uganda Police Force remains committed to ensuring that all those responsible are held accountable and brought before the courts of law,” Kawala added.
She noted that police will continue providing updates as investigations progress.
