A quick response by members of the public helped police arrest a suspected robber following an attack on a businessman and his sister in Kabowa, Rubaga Division.
The suspect, Nasir Mutyaba, was arrested after residents and first responders intervened during the robbery incident on June 29, 2026.
Police said the victims were travelling to Kironde Zone in Ndeeba Parish when they were intercepted by two men riding motorcycles and armed with pangas. The attackers allegedly assaulted the victims and took away a handbag, mobile phone, and cash.
Following Mutyaba’s arrest, police said his cooperation during interrogation provided leads that resulted in the arrest of five alleged accomplices — Herbert Musinguzi, Patrick Kalyango, Owen Talemwa, Ronald Kyeyune, and Ivan Mwase.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala praised the role played by the public in supporting law enforcement efforts.
“The Uganda Police Force commends members of the public whose prompt response contributed to the arrest of the first suspect,” Kawala said.
She urged communities to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security authorities.
“We continue to urge the public to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious individuals and criminal activities, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime,” she added.
Police have since impounded two motorcycles suspected to have been used during the robberies and are investigating whether the suspects are connected to other similar cases within Kampala Metropolitan Area.
