Three police officers attached to Butambala Police Station have been arrested to assist in investigations into the fatal shooting of a coffee factory worker at Abbarci Industries Ltd. in Gomba District.
The officers, identified as PC Nicholas Mujuni, PC Alex Welikhe, and Corporal Bosco Foste, are being held as detectives investigate the circumstances under which Musa Katerega, a machine operator at the factory, was shot dead on July 1, 2026.
According to the Katonga Regional Police spokesperson, the officers were arrested as part of ongoing inquiries into the incident.
“As part of the ongoing investigations, three police officers attached to Butambala Police Station have been arrested to assist with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The suspects remain in custody and will be produced before the courts of law as investigations continue,” said SP Lydia Tumushabe.
Police said the shooting occurred at about 4:00 p.m. at Abbarci Industries Ltd. in Kanoni Cell, Kanoni Town Council, Gomba District, during a visit by officials from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), who were accompanied by an armed security team and police officers to inspect the coffee processing facility.
The inspection team was reportedly led by an official identified as Mathias, who was known to the Acting Factory Manager and Accountant, Zalika Nalubega.
Investigators have since obtained video footage showing that a scuffle broke out among individuals at the factory shortly before the shooting. Detectives are now working to establish what triggered the altercation and how it escalated into the fatal shooting of Katerega.
“We remain committed to conducting thorough, impartial, and professional investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that all those found culpable are brought to justice,” SP Tumushabe added.
Police say investigations into the fatal shooting are ongoing.
