CAF finally clears Namboole to host international games

The Confederation of African Football(CAF) has cleared Namboole and St. Mary’s Kitende stadiums to host the forthcoming champions league and confederation games.

While SC Villa who won their 17 Uganda Premier League title and the first in 20 years will represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League, Kitara FC will pay in the CAF Confederation Cup.

SC Villa will play against Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia  and the winner of the two legs will play the winner between Young Africans of Tanzania and Burundi’s Vital’O to determine the team to progress to group stages.

On the other side, Kitara FC will play a team from Libya that is yet to be revealed in the firs preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

According to the list of stadiums cleared to host matches in the first  and second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, Namboole and Kitende are the only ones allowed in Uganda.

In Tanzania, only Benjamin Mkapa stadium has been cleared while none in Kenya has been cleared.

Also Chad, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi,Central African Republic, Comoros, Congo,Djibouti, Eritrea,Eswatini, Gambia,Ethiopia, Guinea and Lesotho have no single stadium cleared for these matches.

Uganda’s Namboole Stadium had previously been closed for  four years to allow for renovation by the UPDF Engineering Brigade.
