Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) nearing retirement have been cautioned to remain vigilant against pension scams that could rob them of their hard-earned benefits.
The soldiers, set to retire by the end of this month, were warned to avoid being lured into fraudulent schemes disguised as investment opportunities.
The warning was issued by Lt Col Onesmus Amanya, the Deputy Director in charge of Pensions, during a documentation and sensitisation exercise held at Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja. The exercise involved NCOs from the Air Force, Special Forces Command, and personnel from Jinja and Magamaga Cantonment.
Lt Col Amanya encouraged the retirees to support one another, particularly in times of need, such as covering funeral expenses, fostering a sense of unity and mutual assistance within their ranks.
He also reassured them that the pension payment process has significantly improved, ensuring that retirees receive their payments promptly and without the involvement of unnecessary intermediaries.
