Chinese  automobile manufacturer Great Wall Motor Company Limited ,also known as GWM has entered the Ugandan market.

Headquartered in Baoding, Hebei, China, GWM was named after the Great Wall of China and it largely produces sport-utility vehicles and pick-up trucks.

Last week, the company launched its  flagship vehicle, the Tank 500, on the Ugandan market but also opened its showroom along Port Bell Road in Kampala.

Speaking during the function,  Steven Dumba, GWM’s Sales Manager, described the Tank 500 as a powerful, all-terrain, off-road vehicle crafted to deliver a safe, smooth, and exhilarating driving experience.

“There’s been a gap in our auto industry. Customers have longed for better options, and we are here to provide a solution. Whether it’s a passionate driver who wants to add the Tank to their collection or a fleet owner seeking to reduce fuel and maintenance costs, we have something unique to offer,” Dumba said.

Officials described the vehicle as the best when it comes to large luxury SUVs and it is a 7 seater body on frame .

The vehicle has 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid engine which  produces a combined power output of 255kW and 648Nm of torque.

The Tank 500 has enough performance to accelerate from 0-100km/h 8.3seconds, officials say.

“On the outside it includes a magnificent and striking front grille, grand 18 inch alloy wheels and automatic Electric Side Steps” which make entering and exiting the vehicle an indulgent delight. Hop inside and you’re instantly met with ventilated Nappa leather seats that can be adjusted to your favourite driving position,” GWM says.

The Tank 500 Lux hybrid  has a 2.0L Hybrid engine and advanced 9-speed transmission.

Featuring intelligent 4×4 and versatile driving modes, it ensures unmatched capability and performance.

It has a 3,000kg braked towing capacity, 3-zone climate control, 360° view monitor + clear chassis view, 14.6 inch color multitouch screen, auto parking assist, auto reversing assistance, lane departure warning + lane keep assist, electronic rear diff lock and a wading depth of  800mm.
