The Judiciary has broken its silence on the arrest and detention of one of their own, Justice Lydia Mugambe in the UK over modern slavery charges.

Mugambe was charged by the Thames Valley Police on three counts of conspiracy to facilitate a breach of UK immigration laws by a non- UK national.

She has also been charged with arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view of exploitation and requiring a person to perform forced or compulsory labour.

The trial is expected to start in Feebruary 2025

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, the Judiciary spokesperson, James Ereemye Maanda confirmed the Ugandan judge had been charged in the UK court.

“The Chief Justice is   engaging relevant government authorities over the matter after which a formal communication on the matter will be issued,” he said.
