Former Leader of the Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, has taken a jibe at National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine over his comments on the Shs500 million service reward.
Speaking during the presentation of the opposition’s alternative budget on Monday, Bobi Wine blasted Mpuuga for the shs500 million service award which he said was paid to him even before he could start work as Leader of Opposition.
“We’ve seen in this Parliament the Speaker of Parliament and government ministers sharing iron sheets meant for the poorest of the poor in Uganda. It is in this Parliament that we’ve seen the Leader of Opposition rewarded before he works,” Bobi Wine said.
However, not happy with his former boss’ words, Mpuuga took to X( formerly twitter ) to respond to him.
He said Kyagulanyi needs to acquaint himself with the workings of government, more so, parliament.
“When you believe that Parliament or government works or budgets like a concert manager where collections are done at the entrance and expenditures from the collections made the following day, your assertion is right,” Mpuuga wrote in jest.
The fallout between Mpuuga and Bobi Wine stemmed from the shs500 million service award that the latter said was unlawful.
The National Unity Platform would later ask Mpuuga to resign from his position as a commissioner of parliament after he admitted taking the shs500 million ‘service award.’
However, Mpuuga in a statement, he said he would not resign.
“To call any such payments corruption is the highest level of spite, double standards and deliberate misrepresentation to the public and membership of the party on a purely selfish and malicious mission,” Mpuuga said.
He was however later replaced with Joel Ssenyonyi as LOP and Muwanga Kivumbi as NUP vice president for Buganda.
