President Museveni has made a case for Pan Africanism, noting that if embraced by Ugandans, they can reap benefits.
“Pan Africanism is cleverness. A clever man knows what will help him. I am a wealth creator from birth. By the age of four was looking after cows. I always look at whole thing from emotional side but also economic side,” Museveni said.
He was on Friday evening speaking during a radio talk show in Arua as he campaigns in West Nile sub region.
Museveni explained that many Ugandans don’t know the idea behind Pan Africanism but said it is for their individual benefit and that of the country at large.
“I am a cattle keeper and farmer. I want people who can buy my milk, beef and bananas so I become prosperous. Banyankole don’t buy my milk, beef and bananas because they have the same. The people who buy my beef, milk and bananas are people of Kampala, mainly non Banyankole. That’s why NRM said love Uganda because you need it for your own good. If you examined carefully even the internal market is not enough and need regional market. You can’t get it if you don’t promote pan Africanism,” he said.
“Just in Arua here, many south Sudanese are buying from people here. Pan Africanism is cleverness to ensure market for us and for our brothers. It is economics.”
Museveni said the excess products like milk, sugar, cement, matooke among others that Uganda produces can be easily sold to nearby markets like Rwanda, Kenya ,DRC and South Sudan because of the Pan African spirit.
He noted that in the same spirit, those countries can sell their products to Uganda.
