Absa Bank Uganda has handed over cash prizes worth shs40 million to four lucky winners in its ongoing card usage promotion, Play Your Cards Right.
The campaign, which began in June and runs through August 2025, is aimed at encouraging debit and credit card usage among the bank’s customers.
Open to both personal and business banking clients, the campaign rewards participants who complete at least five card transactions during the promotion period. Each month, two winners from personal banking and two from business banking receive shs10 million each.
Speaking during the prize handover, Moses Rutahigwa, Absa Bank Uganda’s Retail and Business Banking Director, said the campaign aligns with the bank’s refreshed brand promise, Your Story Matters.
“When we launched this campaign on 29 May 2025, we promised to reward four winners every month with UGX 10 million each. I am glad that today, we are fulfilling that promise. Congratulations to the June winners,” Rutahigwa said.
According to the 2023 Financial Stability Report by the Bank of Uganda, debit card transactions totaled shs561.5 billion, with over 3.8 million active cards. Credit card usage also showed upward trends, with transactions reaching shs30.9 billion from nearly 10,000 active cards.
Absa Bank Uganda continues to outperform industry averages, with a 2024 card payments growth rate of 18.5%, and a 15% increase in active card usage—well above the 2% market average.
“Under this campaign, we’re rewarding customers who choose convenience through our seamless card solutions. Play Your Cards Right is more than a promotion—it reflects our commitment to digital banking that is both secure and rewarding,” Rutahigwa added.
One of the June business banking winners, Mr. Pafra Mulambuzi, Director of ABM Investments, praised the initiative.
“We use our business debit card for most transactions, and this win confirms that Absa’s campaign is real. I encourage other clients to embrace card payments—they might be next,” he said.
Rutahigwa encouraged more customers to participate, noting that additional prizes are still up for grabs. He also reassured customers that Absa continues to invest in robust cybersecurity systems to protect user data and funds.
