Prisoners who sat the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) posted commendable results, demonstrating that learning can thrive even under challenging circumstances.
A total of 101 inmates from Luzira Upper Prison and Masaka Prison were registered to sit for the 2025 PLE. However, only 97 candidates eventually sat the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) examinations. Of those who took the exams, just 11 candidates failed.
At Uganda Government Upper Prison School in Luzira, 61 candidates were registered, slightly fewer than the 71 candidates registered in 2024. Of these, 58 sat for the examinations. Four candidates passed in Division One, 27 in Division Two, 13 in Division Three, and five in Division Four. Nine candidates were ungraded, while three did not sit the exams, likely due to early release.
Meanwhile, at Mbarara Main Prison Inmates Primary School, 40 candidates were registered, and 39 sat the examination. Of these, seven candidates achieved Division One, 15 passed in Division Two, 10 in Division Three, and five in Division Four, while two candidates were ungraded.
