The burial programme for veteran politician and senior military officer Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali has been released, with the former First Deputy Prime Minister set to be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Adjumani District on Wednesday.
Gen. Ali, fondly known as the “Lion of Adjumani,” died on Saturday, July 18, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala after decades of distinguished public service.
On Sunday, mourners gathered to pay their final respects during Janaza prayers held at Old Kampala Mosque, Kibuli Mosque, and his mosque in Naguru before his body was taken to his residence in Naguru.
According to the tentative burial programme, the body will on Monday be taken to Parliament, where lawmakers will hold a special sitting in honour of the fallen statesman, before an official state ceremony at Kololo Airstrip.
Following the Presidential address, the body will be airlifted to Yumbe for Janaza prayers before proceeding to Adjumani, where it will lie overnight ahead of the final burial rites.
On Wednesday morning, the body will be taken to Paridi Stadium for a special memorial gathering bringing together representatives from the 15 districts of the West Nile sub-region.
A final Janaza prayer will then be held at Abirichaku at 3:00 p.m., followed by burial at 4:00 p.m. at his ancestral home in Adjumani District.
Gen. Ali was one of Uganda’s longest-serving public servants, having held several senior government and military positions over the course of his career. He was widely respected for his patriotism, commitment to national unity, and contribution to Uganda’s development.
Government officials, political leaders, religious leaders, members of the diplomatic community, and the public are expected to join the family in paying their final respects during the official funeral programme.
