A businessman has been remanded to Luzira Prison after being accused of obtaining Shs62 million from a man in an alleged fraudulent land deal involving 50 decimals of land in Garuga, Wakiso District.
Samuel Gashari was arraigned before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday and charged with obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 285 of the Penal Code Act.
Prosecution alleges that between 2018 and 2019, in Kampala District, Gashari obtained Shs62 million from Denis Kato Sekate after falsely claiming that he was selling him 50 decimals of land in Garuga, Katabi Town Council, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.
The prosecution further alleges that Gashari did not own the land he purportedly offered for sale.
The charges were brought by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Gashari denied the charges when he appeared before the court.
The court subsequently remanded him to Luzira Prison until October 29, 2026, as investigations into the alleged fraudulent land transaction continue.
