The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced that he will take control of the entire budget for roads in Kampala.

In a post shared on X, Gen. Muhoozi said he will personally determine who builds and repairs roads in the city.

“I shall say one more thing today. The entire budget for roads in Kampala will be under my control (CDF). I will determine who builds and repairs roads,” Gen. Muhoozi said

He warned contractors against doing shoddy work despite receiving huge sums of money, saying those found responsible would pay a heavy price.

“If I see a pothole after we have paid for construction of a road, that contractor will pay with his head,” CDF warned

The CDF, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, also blamed corruption for the persistent flooding in Kampala, accusing Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago of failing to work towards meaningful change in the city.

“Floods in Kampala have been caused by 40 years of corruption in Kampala. We had idiots like Lukwago for 25 years! That is changing now. UPDF is taking charge,” he said

“I think Ugandans have now began to understand us…we don’t joke around! Kampala will have the best roads and pavements in Africa!,” he added.

Following an outcry by Ugandans over bad roads in Kampala, the CDF in 2024 inspected all roads in Kampala. Since this inspection, many roads have been under UPDF Engineering brigade which has been grately applauded by many for its competence and timely delivery of roads they are contruacted to do.

The most recent is the Bukoto-KisaloSalo road. The road works were initiated following a directive by CDF Gen Muhoozi, and are being implemented under the supervision of Lt Col Eng. Robert Chabo, Deputy Commandant of the UPDF Engineering Brigade.

Following public outcry over the poor state of roads in Kampala which were exposed by the a campaign led by activists dubbed #PotHoleExhibition, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in 2024 inspected roads across the city.

Since the inspection, several road projects have been handed to the UPDF Engineering Brigade, which has been widely praised by many Ugandans for its efficiency and timely completion of works.

One of the latest projects is the Bukoto–KisaloSalo road. The road works were initiated following a directive by Gen. Muhoozi and are being supervised by Lt Col Eng. Robert Chabo, the Deputy Commandant of the UPDF Engineering Brigade.
