Uganda 3-0 Guinea
Following a bruising 3-0 defeat to hosts Algeria in their opening game, the Cranes got the much-needed redemption as they beat Guinea 3-0 to reignite hopes of progressing from the group in the 2024 African Nations Championship(CHAN) at Namboole.
In front of ten of thousands of supporters who braced the floodlights at Namboole on Friday night, goals in either half were enough for Uganda to bag home all three points on the day.
The hosts took the lead, after 31minutes, thanks to a Rogers Mpande finish.
The striker latched onto a neat assist from Joseph Sserunjogi, slotting home the only goal of the first stanza of the game to send fans into frenzy.
Allan Okello heroics
Coming into the second half, Uganda returned with the same energy and it paid off with the second goal coming in the 61st minute, thanks to SC Vipers midfielder, Allan Okello’s heroics.
Okello who had earlier been brought down by a Guinean defender had to wait for a decision from the Video Assistant Referee that confirmed the penalty that the youthful midfielder calmly slotted in the back of the net to beat the Guinean goalkeeper.
The second goal further sent fans into frenzy.
However, things were not yet done for both Cranes and Allan Okello as in the 89th minute, the youngster made an assist that was slotted home by Ivan Ahimbisibwe who rounded off the goalkeeper to slow the ball in an empty net.
It was game over for Guinea as the Cranes flew high above everyone at the Namboole floodlights.
