Four members of one family have died in a fatal road accident along the Masaka–Mbarara highway.
According to the Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning at Njagalakasayi in Lwengo District. A Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W, collided head-on with a Fuso truck, registration number UBP 510V.
Kasirye explained that the Toyota Fielder, which was travelling from Masaka towards Mbarara, veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming Fuso that was heading towards Masaka.
“The impact was fatal and killed all four occupants of the Toyota Fielder on the spot,” Kasirye said.
The deceased have been identified as Brenda Ainembabazi, Ivan Burahi, and their two children.
Police said they responded promptly to the scene, and both vehicles were towed to the police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). The bodies were taken to Masaka City Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
“The possible cause of the accident is suspected to be reckless driving, although investigations are still ongoing,” Kasirye added.
